Description

Inspired by the African keyhole gardening technique, the Classic 6x6 Keyhole Composting Garden lets you compost household waste and grow vegetables in the same garden.

A central compost basket is used in the Keyhole Garden to conveniently place your daily kitchen scraps. This household waste is then organically transformed into nutrient rich soil that nourishes your vegetables. Compost fed soil better holds moisture and nutrients, while using up to 70% less water.

Crafted from a durable food grade BPA/phthalate-free vinyl that ensures healthy, safe food production and a long product lifespan. Boards slide into posts easily and conveniently, with no need for tools or screws. Our innovative posts make for perfectly modular garden beds, allowing you to design and configure your own unique layout and size.

It’s smart, sustainable and beautifully designed.

Inspired to Give Back

We stumbled upon the Keyhole garden concept while researching organic gardening methods. This inspired us to create our own series of garden beds using this African gardening technique. This idea was gifted to us by the African people and so we felt compelled to give back.

Do you ship overseas?

For shipping outside the Continental United States and Canada we recommend contacting a freight forwarding company (i.e Shipito) to facilitate your order. We do not ship direct, internationally. Our customer service team is available at hello@wearevita.com to answer any questions.

How many boxes will my product arrive in?

Classic Vinyl products come with a 20-year limited warranty against material defects. Warranty is only valid on items purchased through Vita or authorized Vita retailers. Vita cannot guarantee products purchased secondhand or through a re-seller. Proof of purchase may be required.

Do your garden beds have a bottom?

No, our composting gardens & garden beds do not have a bottom. They are designed to be placed on grass or soil. This will allow for proper drainage and give access to beneficial insects from below. Most of our elevated gardens have floorboards. Check product specifications.

Can I put my garden bed on concrete?

We do not recommend placing your bottomless garden bed on concrete. It was designed to be placed on grass or soil to allow for proper drainage and to give access to beneficial insects from below.

You can line the bottom of your garden bed with landscaping fabric to help keep the soil from seeping out, if you can only place your bed on concrete.

Where should I set up my garden bed?

We recommend placing your garden bed in a sunny location on flat, even ground. Be sure to leave yourself space around all sides for easy access.

Are your garden beds modular? Can I configure my own unique layout?

The majority of our Classic, Mezza and Urbana garden beds come with innovative posts that make for perfectly modular beds. This allows you to design and configure your own unique garden layout and size. Please check your garden bed has modular posts before purchase.

How can I make my garden bed more stable?

We recommend purchasing rebar from your local hardware store and inserting it into the post into the ground.

How can I keep critters out of my garden bed?

To keep animals from burrowing up into your garden bed you can bury chicken wire around the beds approx. 1-2 feet in the ground. You can also place chicken wire around the perimeter to keep them from climbing/hopping into your bed.

Exactly what we've been wanting

My and I are extremely happy with our 6x6 Keyhole raised garden. This was very easy to put together and we love the composting that's incorporated into it. We have it all set up and we will be adding our vegetables and herbs in the first week of May. We started from seeds in March and they are just about ready to be in their new home. Our neighbors all have commented on how nice it looks in the yard and we have added this to two other Vita raised garden beds we purchased last summer. Once we get it growing nicely I will add some pictures. Vita was wonderful to deal with on the phone and we are happy with our purchase. Vita has very good customer care too which is very important along with product knowledge. Keyhole composting is an interesting technique that uses much less water than a conventional raised garden.

Hi Bruce! We're so glad to hear that you're happy with your 6x6 Garden. Thanks so much for the kind words! We look forward to seeing your photos! :)
